How career centers can use an AI job search agent between appointments

Use it for the work students repeat every day between appointments: finding roles that are open now, checking a resume against a specific posting, and tracking what they applied to. Keep advising time for judgment calls such as which roles to target and how to tell their story. Carir's free plan covers the search, a keyword check and a tracker, so students can start without a card.

What students need between appointments

Most of a job search happens between advising appointments: searching, reading postings, adjusting a resume, sending, following up. Students who stall usually stall there, on the same few steps, every day. Advising time is the scarce resource, so the useful question is which of those steps a student can do well alone with the right tool, and which need a person.

Three steps repeat for almost every application and need little judgment once they are set up: finding roles that are open now, checking how a resume reads against one posting, and keeping track of what was sent. Two need judgment every time: deciding which roles are worth the effort, and deciding how to present experience honestly. A good setup hands the first three to software and saves appointments for the last two.

Finding roles that are open now

Students lose time on postings that closed weeks ago or never were what they seemed. Teach them to search with the level in the query, such as intern, new grad or entry level, keep results to the last week or two, and confirm each role on the employer's own careers page. The guide to finding internships that are still open walks through the method.

Carir's job board does the first part for them. A level word typed into the search is a must, so a search for marketing intern returns internships only, and close calls are listed apart with what differs named. On Pro, the daily matches go further: roles employers created in the last 24 hours on their own hiring boards, filtered by the roles, place, level and pay the student set.

Checking a resume against one posting

A resume is never good or bad in general, only against a posting. The fastest useful check is literal: which of the posting's terms does the resume carry, in the posting's own spelling, and which does it miss? That is how a recruiter's keyword search in an applicant tracking system sees it, and it tells a student what to fix before they send.

Any student can run that check on carir.ai without an account: pick a real posting, add a resume, and see a keyword score and the posting's most important terms the resume misses. The resume is read by a parser, never by a person, and is deleted after 24 hours unless the student signs up and keeps it. On Pro, each daily match also comes with the resume lines that earned its score and the requirements the resume shows, shows in part or misses.

Keeping track without a spreadsheet

Follow-up is where good applications are lost. Carir's tracker is on the free plan: every saved role on one board, by stage, from saved to applied to interviewing. Students who connect Gmail, with read-only access, can let replies from employers move their own cards; that inbox tracking is in beta.

What stays with advisors

  • Choosing targets. A tool can rank roles against a resume; it cannot know which path a student wants, or should consider.
  • Telling the story. Turning coursework, part-time work and projects into evidence an employer believes is a conversation, not a setting.
  • Reading the local market. Advisors know which employers hire from the school, and when.
  • Honesty. Students should hear from a person that nothing belongs on a resume that they cannot talk about in an interview.

What to tell students about Carir

Carir is a job search agent for candidates, paid for by candidates. No employer money and no click signals enter its scores, so nothing can be bought up a student's list. The free plan includes the job board with keyword match scores, alerts, a wishlist, the tracker and a daily email. Pro adds the daily matches with their evidence, a resume builder, tailoring that returns unsupported requirements as gaps rather than inventing experience, cover letters, outreach drafts, and applications prepared for the student to review and send. Every trial is five days of Pro with no card, and it ends by itself.

Carir is independent of any school, and there is no school dashboard: each student's account is their own. For a ready-made announcement and workshop outline, see how to share Carir with your students.

Questions people ask

Does Carir replace career advisors?

No. It handles repeatable steps such as finding open roles, checking a resume's keywords against a posting and tracking applications. Choosing which roles to pursue and how to present experience honestly are judgment calls that belong in advising.

Is Carir free for students?

The free plan includes the job board with keyword match scores, alerts, a wishlist and the application tracker, with no card and no time limit. Pro is $25 a month or $240 a year in the US, and every trial is five days of Pro with no card that ends by itself.

Can a career center see students' Carir accounts?

No. There is no school dashboard or school view. Each student signs up on their own, and their account, resumes and tracker are theirs.

Does Carir apply to jobs for students?

On Pro, Carir prepares applications on Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby forms: a tailored resume, answers, a cover letter and the filled form. By default nothing is sent until the student approves it; sending on its own is a separate switch the student has to turn on and confirm.

Do employers pay to appear in a student's results?

No. Carir is paid by candidates only, and no advertiser money or click signal enters its scoring.
