Remote, hybrid or on-site: how postings split by role

Among postings on Carir's job board from the 30 days to October 1, 2026 that state a work mode, remote was the most common for every office role checked: 81% for software engineers, 85% for product managers and 88% for marketing managers. Registered nursing was the exception, at 54% on-site. The board leans remote because some of its sources list only remote jobs.

Why the board leans remote

Carir reads many job sources, and some of them list remote jobs only. Their postings arrive labeled remote, while many employers' own postings never state a mode. That tilts every share in the table toward remote, so read it as what this board holds, not as how the whole market works.

Hybrid looks rare partly for the same reason: a posting counts as hybrid only when its data says hybrid. A schedule described only in the text of the posting, such as three days in the office, is not counted.

What it means for your search

  • Remote roles are plentiful on the board, and so is competition for them: a remote posting is open to applicants from a whole country or more.
  • If you can work on-site or hybrid, include those modes. You will see more roles that state them, and roles that state nothing.
  • Accountant and data analyst roles had the largest on-site shares of the office roles, at 23% and 22%.
  • For nursing and other clinical roles, the work mode is rarely stated; assume on-site unless the posting says otherwise.

How Carir treats work mode

On Carir, work mode and location are filters, not hints: set remote and you see remote roles. When a filter leaves almost nothing, the board shows roles that match your words but miss a filter in a separate list, and says how each one differs, such as hybrid, not remote.

How we counted

Each figure comes from Carir's public job board search, limited to postings from the 30 days to October 1, 2026, read on that date: the total for the role's search, then the totals with the work mode filter set to remote, hybrid and on-site. Shares are of the postings that state one of the three modes. Postings that state no mode are counted in the first column only.

Questions people ask

Are most jobs remote now?

Not across the whole market. On Carir's board, most postings that state a mode were remote for the office roles checked, but the board includes sources that carry only remote jobs. For the market-wide picture, use official surveys such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics' job openings data.

Why is hybrid so rare in this data?

A posting counts as hybrid only when its data labels it hybrid. Many hybrid schedules are described only in the posting's text and are not counted.

Should I only apply to remote jobs?

Only if remote is a requirement for you. Remote roles draw applicants from a wide area; including hybrid and on-site roles near you widens your options.
